The message below is from Bel Air South Community Foundation who started the petition “NO BEL AIR WAL-MART!,” on Change.org.

According to an article on the 40th anniversary of the Harford Mall, in its existing size is 140,000 sq.ft, is smaller then the proposed Walmart in Bel Air on plumtree/924, which is a proposed 185,000 sqft.

Two meetings coming up you may wish to attend:

Wednesday 17 October @ 9 AM *(yes)* 9am! If you can take a half-day off of work, please come to 212 S. Bond Street (the black box building). to listen to the county’s Developer Advisory Committee review the proposed plans for the Wal-Mart and the Wal-mart shopping center complex.

Tuesday night, County Council chambers, the last meeting for the month of October of the County Council. As the County Executive will not meet with the Citizens of the County to discuss this issue, this is our only “on the record” venue to discuss our concerns to the County Council about issues that concern us with this project. If you’re interested in speaking, please email communityinfo@bascf.org and we can help you with your message so you can present a well defined argument or concern. This tuesday County Council session has two parts, A public hearing on proposed bills @ 6pm, and the regular Legislative session at 7:30pm. Here is a list of the schedule: http://www.harfordcountymd.gov/Council/Calendar.cfm

Also: We are looking for anyone who may have pictures of the missing tree on 924/Patterson mill. During construction a tree that was supposedly protected was cut down and the roots ripped out of the ground. This was the 4th tree (closet to the Lorien), if you had a baseball event when the firehouse was just a baseball diamond, or may have taken pictures of this protected tree, please email the pictures to communityinfo@bascf.org. Thank you!
